KSU Teach CS: Innovative Methods for Preparing a New Generation of CS Teachers and Students in Ohio

Join the Masters of Education with Computer Science Endorsement Preparation! 

PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

Kent State University has put a priority on positively impacting the number of instructors prepared to teach computer science in Ohio schools. This preparation occurs through both preservice teacher education as well as continuing education for those who are already endorsed or those seeking computer science endorsement. Through a partnership with the Ohio Department of Higher Education, KSU faculty and staff, and partners are pleased to offer an innovative program that addresses:

  • No-cost tuition for teachers
  • Flexible scheduling through asynchronous, online coursework
  • Tentative Timeline: January 2026 - May 2027
  • Peer support through an innovative cohort model
  • Practical application of CS principles to their teaching
  • 25 seats available

Computer Science concentration requires evidence of a valid Resident Educator (not Alternative) or Professional State of Ohio teaching license.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Master's Pathway:

  • Completed application form
  • Letter of Application (addressing your CS background, why CS education matters, and your future plans)
  • Administrator Letter of Support (addressing district CS need, why you're the right candidate, and your future role)
  • Valid Ohio teaching license

If you want to apply for this program, you should NOT apply to Kent State on your own because you will be charged for the application fee (which is not reimbursable and there is no guarantee of acceptance into the program or guarantee of a scholarship). Here are steps you can take right now to indicate your interest:

  1. Fill out the intent to apply form to have your name added to the interest list. The email address you put on this list is where we will send a waiver code for the application fee when it is time to apply, so it should be an email that you check regularly. 
  2. Begin the Kent State Application and upload your documentation, but DO NOT click the apply button. Get everything ready so that you can enter the waiver code and click apply when the time comes.
